RECERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

-CDCS, ACDPII/ACDP, CDP, CIT, PCDP, SAC, RCS
-Requalification/Recertification is every two (2) years.  All counselors are required to submit 40 clock
hours of approved continuing education every two years with a minimum of thirty (30) hours substance
abuse specific.  
Starting January 1, 2012, the RIBCCDP is eliminating the 6 hours best practice requirement and
replacing with 3 hours Ethics. However, up to January 1, 2012, recertifying professionals may
submit verification of the 3 hours of Ethics training or the present 6 hours Best Practice.
 
(6 hrs. Best Practice - i.e., Methadone Training, Co-occurring Disorders, Hep C & HIV, PTSD,
Domestic Violence, New Drugs, Prescription Drugs, Compulsive Gambling, CSAP Model  
Programming, Environmental Strategies and Suicide Assessment)

-All documentation is due for submission sixty (60) days prior to qualification expiration.  

-Licensed/Certified counselors must obtain 40 clock hours every two years  in order to be eligible for
relicensure/recertification  It is strongly recommended, but not required, that counselors obtain twenty
clock hours per year.  Please note:
CDCS and RCS individuals must submit 6 hours MANDATORY
Clinical Supervisor Specific training for recertification in the following Domains: Counselor
Development, Professional & Ethical Standards, Program Development & Quality Assurance,
Performance Evaluation, Administration, and Treatment Knowledge.

-Of these 40 clock hours, a minimum of 30 shall be in Category I (Substance Abuse  Specific), Source
A/B/C/D/E

-Up to 10 clock hours, which are not Substance Abuse Specific, may be included under  Category II.

CCJP RECERTIFICATION:
-Recertification is every two (2) years.  All CCJP professionals must document the following:
-15 hours – Category I - Substance Abuse Specific training, Source A/B/C/D/E
-15 hours – Category II – Criminal Justice Specific
-10 Hours related training

following:
-20 Hours - Category I - Co-Occurring Specific - Source A/B/C/D/E
-20 Hours - Category II - Professional Training - Source A only

Recertification is every two (2) years.  CPS, ACPS & CPSS must document the following:
30 hours - Category I - Prevention Specific - Source A/B/C/D/E
10 hours - Category II - ATOD Specific
Associate Prevention Specialists - 20 Prevention specific hours every two (2) years with 5 hours ATOD
