CERTIFIED CO-OCCURRING DISORDER PROFESSIONAL

CCDP-D , CCDP & PCCDP REQUIREMENTS

Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Professional Diplomate
Experience:
2,000 hours of COD specific work in last ten years.
Intended for behavioral health professionals with experience and training in the integrated treatment of and
interactive relationship between substance use and mental disorders.

Education/Training:
A minimum of a Master’s degree in behavioral science with a clinical application from a college or university
that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation or an
international equivalent if degree is from an international institution.

140 Hours of COD specific training – specific training events must include a focus on both substance use
and mental disorders and consider the interactive relationship between the disorders to qualify.
6 Hours counselor specific ethics training (Required).

Supervision:
100 clock hours total with a minimum of 10 (ten) hours in each Performance Domain.

Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Professional
Experience:
6,000 hours work experience total with 4,000 hours of COD specific work experience and 2,000 hours of
documented work experience in counseling in last ten years.
Intended for behavioral health professionals with experience and training in the integrated treatment of and
interactive relationship between substance use and mental disorders.

Education/Training:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science with a clinical application from a college or
university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education
Accreditation or an international equivalent if degree is from an international institution.

200 clock hours of training total with 140 Hours of COD specific training – specific training events must
include a focus on both substance use and mental disorders and consider the interactive relationship
between the disorders to qualify. 30 clock hours of addiction specific training and 30 clock hours mental
health specific training.
6 Hours counselor specific ethics training (Required).

Supervision:
200 clock hours total with a minimum of 20 (twenty) hours in each Performance Domain.

Provisional Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Professional
Experience:
2,000 hours of COD specific work in last ten years.
Intended for behavioral health professionals with experience and training in the integrated treatment of and
interactive relationship between substance use and mental disorders.

Education/Training:
Non-degree or Associates degree in behavioral science with a clinical application from a regionally accepted
college or university within the United States or college and universities outside the U.S. deemed equivalent
by an ICRC member board.

140 Hours of COD specific training – specific training events must include a focus on both substance use
and mental disorders and consider the interactive relationship between the disorders to qualify.
70 hours addiction specific training.
70 hours mental health specific training.
6 Hours counselor specific ethics training (Required).

Supervision:
150 clock hours total with a minimum of 10 (ten) hours in each Performance Domain

Examination:
No written examination for Provisional level of certification.
